The Q letter and its use with jewish names for boys

Generally and traditionally speaking, there are no jewish names that are translated in English as starting with the letter Q. The reason for this is that the hebrew names that needed the hard K sound at the beginning were split among the 'C' and 'K' letter, as in 'Cohen' or 'Kaleb'; the Q letter was simply not used much in jewish names at all as you can find out by looking through this site.  The hebrew alphabet has two main ways to illustrate the K sound, Kaf and Qoph; whereas in the roman alphabet many different letters and letter combinations can be used for this sound.  To go back to main page, click jewish names.
